DESCRIPTION:Attention : changement du lieu de déroulement. \nNotre collègue Denis Vigier coordonne la troisième édition du cycle de conférences Extraction\, traitement et visualisation de données complexes en géographie (XVIIIe siècle – XIXe siècle)\, organisées à l’ENS de Lyon et financées par l’Institut Rhônalpin des systèmes Complexes (IXXI). Il est adossé au projet GEODE du LabEx ASLAN. \nLa première séance 2023-2024 est en lien avec les thématiques : TAL et SIG. \nIntervenant.e.s : Ian Gregory (Lancaster University) et des membres du Space Time Narratives Project. \nIntitulé de l’intervention : Space Time Narratives: Understanding imprecise space and time in narratives through qualitative representations\, reasoning\, and visualisation. \n\nPrevious approaches to understanding geographies in textual sources tend to focus on geoparsing to automatically identify place names and allocate them to coordinates. Such methods are highly quantitative and are limited to named places for which coordinates can be found\, and have little concept of time. Yet\, as narratives of journeys make abundantly clear\, human experiences of geography are often subjective and more suited to qualitative representation. In these cases\, « geography » is not limited to named places; rather\, it incorporates the vague\, imprecise\, and ambiguous\, with references to\, for example\, « the camp »\, or « the hills in the distance »\, and includes the relative locations using terms such as « near to »\, « on the left »\, « north of » or « a few hours’ journey from ». \n\n\n\nLa séance se déroulera en mode hybride le jeudi 28 septembre 2023\, de 14h à 15h30\, sur site à l’INSA Lyon\, Bâtiment Ada Lovelace\, 3e étage\, salle 501.3.01 (20 av.
