Some argument schemes are denoted by Latin labels, see Ab<\/em> \u2014; Ad<\/em>\u00a0\u2014; Ex<\/em>\u00a0\u2014<\/a>. This entry lists the labels using the Latin preposition ex <\/em><\/strong>(rarely e<\/strong>, and <\/em>never e<\/em><\/strong> before a vowel).<\/p>\n

E<\/em>\/ex<\/em><\/strong> means \u201ctaken from\u201d; in the construction \u00ab\u00a0arguments e<\/em>\/ex <\/em><\/strong>N\u00a0\u00bb the Latin noun N<\/strong> refers to the substance, from which the argument is taken.<\/p>\n

Like the ab<\/em><\/strong> and ad<\/em> <\/strong>arguments, the ex<\/strong> \u2013<\/em> arguments do not refer to a unified category of arguments, nor to a common semantic family, nor to a single formal type.<\/p>\n
