The next CHORD-talk-in-interaction Workshop is organised by Simona Pekarek Doehler (University of Neuchâtel) and Jérôme Jacquin (University of Lausanne). It will take place at the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) from Monday, January 15th, 2024, 13:30h – 17:15h, to Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, 09:00h – 12:00h. The event can be attended in person and via Zoom.
Workshop Theme: Database evolution for the study of social interaction: Designing annotations for long-term usability
This workshop is designed to address issues related to the ‘longevity’ of annotations of large databases such as TALKBANK or CLAPI (Corpus de Langue Parlée en Interaction), which can be used for research on social interaction. More specifically, it will ask: What are the challenges and best practices related to designing annotation schemes in view of the preservation and usability of data in the long-term, thus putting the evolution of databases at the centre. During the first half-day, we will look at annotation issues (standards, reusability, etc.) in relation to database development (adaptability, expandability, user needs, etc.). The second half-day is designed as a practical workshop in which we will illustrate and discuss the analytical possibilities (and limitations) of selected interactional databases, thereby tracing the whole process form annotation to results.
Invited speakers: Carole Etienne (IR CNRS, ICAR) & Johannes Wagner (University of Southern Denmark).
To attend the workshop, please register by Monday, January 9th, 2024, using this link.
